Land Use & Transportation

Our deep experience in land use and transportation coupled with our commitment to innovation and improvement alongside sensitivity to place enable us to plan effective transportation solutions for diverse groups of people in diverse locations and communities.

As our broadest service category, we know the importance of land use and transportation planning at Fehr & Peers. We have come to think of these services as the result of two separate but interconnected axes – land use and location. Our firm was founded in 1985, and our years of experience have therefore provided a depth of knowledge and client trust running the gamut of both axes and everywhere they intersect – from urban to rural and most every other conceivable land use. By combining this valuable, broad experience with an appetite for innovation and a passion for planning to local values, we offer clients a comprehensive approach with proven solutions.

We are both innovative and practical.

One of our key differentiators is that we internally finance our own leading-edge research on key topics related to land use and transportation. However, we don’t lose sight of what allows us to do this in the first place: our clients and the communities we serve. We know that our services need to span from direct and practical to leading edge in order to cater to the diverse needs of our clients and their communities.

We are sensitive to people and place.

We lay down roots in the communities where we work most, and listen to learn and understand local needs. This allows us to ensure that our services are grounded in the experience and values of the people living in the places where we practice.

We embrace tough challenges.

We love any opportunity to get our passion for creativity and innovation flowing on a good land use and transportation challenge. Our experts are also enthusiasts on all projects and challenges from start to finish: from ideas to detailed designs, from clearance to construction, and everything in between.

Land Use Transportation Studies

Our work influences a wide variety of land use planning strategies, from a single unit of development to large area master plans, at both the local and regional level.

Transportation Demand Management (TDM)

We have leading-edge understanding of TDM measures, uptake, and effectiveness on trip making, as well as a history of crafting holistic plans including development, implementation, and monitoring for our clients.

Curbside Management

When limited real estate is coupled with increased demand from uses such as Lyft/Uber trips, UPS and FedEx deliveries, and invested stakeholders, the result is often a strong desire to make better use of the curb. There has been an explosion of interest in this topic, and we have conducted some of the leading curbside management research and analysis to date.

Public Lands & Recreation

America’s most beautiful and beloved outdoor places are receiving more visitors than ever before, creating unprecedented pressure to protect natural resources, manage visitors, and maintain the condition and performance of transportation systems—all in the face of limited funding opportunities. Serving parks, resorts, public land agencies, and gateway communities has been part of the Fehr & Peers identity for decades. Our strength lies in crafting customized solutions to meet the needs of community members, land and resource managers, transportation planners and engineers, visitors, and recreationalists alike.
