Responsible AI Use Statement

Experienced, well-trained people remain in control of the work, and we approach AI with curiosity, care, and shared responsibility. We use these tools in ways that support our mission to empower staff, encourage innovation, and deliver meaningful, community focused solutions. AI can help us work smarter by sorting information, summarizing complex topics, challenging us to see and explain our blind spots, or sparking early ideas. It supports creativity and technical work, but it does not replace the experience, judgment, or values that guide our decisions.

AI can support our work, but professional judgment always leads. Our staff remain responsible for the accuracy, relevance, and quality of all AI assisted content. Our quality control and client service commitments remain unchanged.

We protect client and company confidentiality by using secure, approved tools that do not share data outside of our environment or use internal or client data for training AI models.

We are open about how we use AI in ways that build trust and respect client preferences. We welcome conversation about our approach and explain how staff review and validate AI assisted work.

Just as we do with all of our work, we review AI tools and outputs for accuracy, reliability, and potential unintended impacts. Our goal is to support well-informed decision-making that considers the needs of the clients, stakeholders, and communities we serve, while maintaining professional judgment and human oversight.

We use AI to support innovation, accelerate collaboration, and enable deeper analysis in our work. By handling routine tasks, AI creates more time for exploration, creativity, and client engagement, helping staff develop thoughtful, community-focused solutions. Just as with other aspects of our work, our project teams collaborate and peer review our use of AI, and we share prompts and AI engagement methods to enhance efficiency and efficacy of model use.

Everyone at Fehr & Peers has the opportunity to share ideas for AI innovations. Our approach helps us quickly identify the most valuable and desired uses, then bring together the right people to support efficient development, appropriate security review, and responsible implementation. 

This statement reflects our shared values and how we intend to grow responsibly as AI evolves. We are thoughtful in our use of new technologies, careful in how we support client and community needs, and guided by human insight at every step. Our people remain our greatest resource – the primary intelligence working together to improve communities. AI is one of many tools that can both empower our employees and help amplify their impact, and we will continue to use it with clarity, curiosity, and integrity.
