Learn The Role

Entry-level engineers and planners have the opportunity to contribute to several projects from our areas of emphasis and work on a wide variety of tasks, including the following:

Transportation analysis using the latest traffic engineering and planning software

Design opportunities; including design of traffic signals, bicycle lanes and paths, streetscapes, and lighting

Report writing

Site visits and field work

Meeting participation, including preparation of presentations and public outreach material

Project management

On-the-job training and mentoring

Participation in professional organizations and the Fehr & Peers internal Research and Development Program

Envision How You Fit In

You thrive in an environment that encourages initiative, vision, autonomy, and creativity. When facing unusual or unfamiliar scenarios, you see opportunities for exploration. You seek solutions through teamwork and collaboration.

In addition to your excellent technical writing and public speaking skills, you have or are completing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Transportation, Civil Engineering, Urban and Regional Planning, or a related field.

You have some work experience, including exposure to field work, traffic operations analysis (e.g. Synchro, VISSIM), engineering design (e.g. AutoCAD, Microstation), multimodal transportation and land use planning, travel demand modeling, and data analysis (e.g. Cube, TransCAD, or Python). Advanced Excel skills, an EIT for engineering candidates, and/or GIS experience are highly desirable.

Explore Our Internships

Fehr & Peers interns gain experience through tasks and responsibilities similar to those of our full-time entrylevel staff. Internships are available in all of our offices for the semester, summer, or year. Interns must be at a junior or senior level pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in one of the specialties listed previously. Coursework, prior internships, and/or extracurricular activities in transportation are preferred.
