UC San Diego Parking Operations Study

To more easily understand parking lot utilization trends overs time at UC San Diego, we developed this data-driven 3D model.

  • The shapes of the “bars” mimic the real-world shape of the parking lots.
  • The heights illustrate total parking capacity in each lot.
  • The fill height represents the extent to which the lot is occupied.
  • The color implies how close the lot is to being full.

Feel free to interact with the model by clicking the time options in the menu at the right, and see the changes in utilization throughout the day.  You can also move around in the model for a specific point-of-view (POV).

Future versions may include commenting features, and/or dynamic calculations of LOS, LTS, and other professional-quality measurements of the transportation environment.
