In taking a consultative approach to our work, the Accounting team plays a critical role in contributing to our overall success. The team functions as a part of the larger Corporate office and is responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of our firm.
We are searching for a Controller who will lead the financial operations and management of our 10-person Accounting Department. The Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer and oversee and refine the internal control policies and procedures.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), compliance, and complex financial statements.

More About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong customer service orientation and the ability to work well with a diverse group of employees in a position that encompasses both leadership and hands-on task work. As the head of the Accounting Department, the Controller manages all aspects of accounting and the growth and development of the team’s staff members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee billing, financial statements, the general ledger, project accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax, compliance, and similar functions of the company
  • Manage the monthly financial close activities, ensuring accurate, timely, and comprehensive financial reporting by preparing and approving journal entries, monthly reconciliations, and monthly variance analyses
  • Drive the development and implementation of strategies to improve accounting operations efficiencies, effectiveness, and scalability, including policies, processes, and system changes
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting
  • Organize information and statements for audits
  • Collaborate with regional office managers and project managers on project accounting and reporting
  • Support the CFO in various reporting and operational requirements.
  • Assist with special projects, including the initiation of process improvements and implementation of Deltek Vantagepoint enhancements

 REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 10 years general accounting experience with at least 5 years in project accounting
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or another related field (desirable)
  • Demonstrated success in developing and leading a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of company personnel
  • Adaptability with a problem-solving attitude
  • Strategic thinking skills and capability
  • Proficiency with accounting software and experience with a software system implementation or upgrade
  • Advanced skills in using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of PowerBI or similar platform (desirable)
