We then identify transportation-related climate mitigation and adaptation strategies based on our expertise and experience that are customized to client needs and goals, whatever those may be: planning for and complying with new legislation to reduce GHGs or electrify bus fleets, minimizing vehicle travel and enhancing travel efficiency, improving access to sustainable transportation options, responding to locally-specific climate risks, or bridging the divide between sustainability efforts, transportation planning, and engineering.

We find many communities grappling with the environmental consequences of past choices, and acknowledge the need to understand our history as we seek to repair broken systems and envision a future that includes a changing climate. Accordingly, we work to co-create community-driven solutions that respond to predicted climate impacts in diverse contexts and embed long-term strategies that build resilience into existing processes, such as asset management plans, state of good repair plans, evacuation plans, and hazard mitigation plans.

Conventional approaches to transportation impact analysis tend to focus on explaining how transportation projects affect driving instead of how those projects may change the amount of driving that will occur. While changes to driving conditions and increasing travel times are important considerations for traffic operations and management, these changes do not fully describe environmental effects associated with fuel consumption, emissions, and public health. California Senate Bill 743 (SB 743) changes the focus of transportation impact analysis in CEQA from measuring impacts to drivers to measuring the impact of driving. We help California clients to understand this shift and to plan for its implementation.
