Fehr & Peers is committed to sustainable practices both in the services we provide to our clients and communities and in our firm’s daily operations. Our internal and external practices reflect our concerns for energy conservation, climate protection, community health and safety and related forms of societal and economic well being.
- We encourage sustainable internal operations. We provide readily-accessible information and perform annual surveys of our internal operations and employee commute habits to inform and incentivize sustainable practices by all employees. Our sustainable practices include: recycling and the use of reusable and recycled materials, conservation of energy and materials through electronic product delivery, meetings and conferences, and in-office energy conservation including locating our offices in energy efficient buildings. We encourage energy-efficient commuting by locating our offices near transit hubs wherever possible and by offering financial incentives for those who commute by transit, walking or cycling. As a result, fewer of our employees commute by automobile than is the norm for the communities in which we are based.
- We actively participate in expanding the focus of our profession on sustainability. We are active in professional committees, conferences and leadership groups, and we frequently publish guidance documents on transportation that is energy efficient, less polluting and more conducive to physical activity and public health and safety. This includes key roles taken by Fehr & Peers staff in sustainability topics for Institute of Transportation Engineers, Transportation Research Board, American Planning Association, Urban Land Institute, ITS America, and other leading industry organizations.
- The services we provide our clients and communities emphasize sustainable forms of mobility. We are recognized thought- and practice-leaders in providing efficient forms of transportation accessibility that reduce energy consumption, emissions and the availability of a full array of travel options. We prepared transportation plans that offer safe and convenient opportunities to walk, cycle and to access and use transit of all forms. We have also developed innovative planning practices for providing full mobility while reducing the number of automobile miles driven for local communities, regional planning organizations and state and federal government agencies both in the United States and internationally.
At Fehr & Peers, sustainable business practices and community mobility are key elements of our culture and mission.
