Fehr & Peers’ Strong Presence at TRB Proves Successful

Fehr & Peers made a strong presence at this year’s TRB meeting in Washington D.C. January 12-16, 2008.  Fehr & Peers hosted a booth in the exhibit hall and a hospitality suite at the Marriott Wardman Park hotel.  Commercial exhibits were new this year, and Fehr & Peers took advantage of this to recruit candidates and promote our innovative and sustainable solutions.

Several staff presented and participated in poster board sessions.  Ron Milam presented his papers “Land Use Based Transit Planning” and “Conventional Level of Service Analysis, Thresholds, and Policies Get a Failing Grade,” Dave Robinson hosted a poster session on the TRB award winning graphic “Little Cottonwood Collisions Graphic,” and Meghan Mitman presenter her paper “Marked Crosswalk Dilemma: Uncovering Some Missing Links in a 35-year Debate.”

The hospitality suite (hosted on the evenings of January 14 and 15) proved to be a great way to meet, greet and converse with over 70 students on what they are looking for in a company, what their future goals are, and how they may fit with Fehr & Peers.  Students from prestigious universities such as UCLA, UNC Chapel Hill, Georgia Tech and Michigan State visited the hospitality suite.

“The fact that we brought 10 staff to present papers, participate in committee meetings, monitor technical presentations, and speak to dozens of students about job opportunities shows our commitment the TRB Annual Meeting.  It’s the most important gathering of transportation professionals in the U.S., shaping how transportation systems are planned, implemented, and managed,” said Bob Grandy, a senior principal with the firm in charge of recruiting.

With the success of the suite, Fehr & Peers will be interviewing many of the students for full-time employment and internship openings throughout our ten offices.
