Fehr & Peers Denver Project Wins Excellence Award
November 11 , 2008

According to the Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD) Web site, “The Gold Line Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) was recently selected as the first-ever recipient of the Federal Transit Administration's Outstanding Achievement Award for Excellence in Environmental Document Preparation. The award recognizes exemplary efforts in preparing effective and practical environmental documents for the public and decision-makers. This is the first time that the FTA has given out this honor. RTD accepted the award earlier this month at the annual meeting of the American Public Transit Association.”

The Fehr & Peers Denver office has been involved with this project from the beginning as a sub consultant to CH2MHILL.  Jeremy Klop and Brian Welch contributed to the onset of work, with Chris Sheffer, project manager, Erik Guderian, and Lacy Bell taking responsibility for the latest work.

Fehr & Peers was chosen to conduct the transportation element of the DEIS, specifically, an analysis of the station area impacts and street crossings of the commuter rail line.  The proposed commuter rail will run from downtown Denver to Arvada and Wheat Ridge, encompassing 7 stations and 11 miles of rail.  The Denver staff will also be assisting CH2MHILL with the editing and reviewing of the station design concepts relevant to station access and track crossings.

In addition to being an award-winning project, the project is also unique in the funding partnership.  The project will be structured as a public/private partnership where a private contractor provides up front funding for the design/build project.  In this case, the FTA’s Penta P process allows for an expedited review and grant process.

Congratulations to our Denver staff for contributing to such an exciting (and award-winning) project.
