Our Portland staff develops cutting-edge transportation solutions for many of the region’s most high-profile and inspiring organizations, including: Oregon Department of Transportation, Multnomah County, Washington County, and the Cities of Portland, Hillsboro, and many others. Our team of 26 staff in the Pacific Northwest include transportation planners and engineers, data analysts, visual communicators, and administrative specialists. With the resources and support of a mid-size firm, our local Portland team of three provides a great entrepreneurial environment for an individual to experience all aspects of the transportation planning and engineering consulting profession, including marketing, direct client interaction, and project management opportunities. Our office is located in the heart of Downtown Portland, close to transit and well-served by bike lanes, allowing you to enjoy all of the benefits that Portland has to offer.

More About the Role

We are seeking a client-focused and professionally licensed Mid-Level Transportation Engineer to join us here in Portland. The ideal candidate has a passion for developing innovative, sustainable, multimodal transportation solutions to improve our local communities. Someone who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment that encourages initiative, vision, autonomy, and creativity. This individual will be invested in the world around them and reflect that investment in their work. When facing unusual or unfamiliar scenarios, they will see opportunities for exploration and seek solutions through teamwork and collaboration. We hope this person will demonstrate the leadership, energy, and talent necessary to make immediate contributions to the transportation consulting profession.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and solve complex transportation planning and engineering problems associated with all travel modes
  • Manage mid-size projects and develop solid internal and external client relationships
  • Use a variety of software programs and analysis methods effectively
  • Make clear, timely, and informed recommendations to clients, elected officials, and stakeholders
  • Work on a variety of projects, including traffic and transit microsimulation, multimodal corridor studies, transportation demand management plans, transportation impact studies, bicycle and pedestrian facility planning and design, and local/regional transportation plans
  • Provide quality control oversight of technical analysis
  • Keep up with industry trends, including new analysis methods, best practices, and disruptive transportation technologies (e.g. AVs, TNCs, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience as a transportation engineer in the following areas:
    • multimodal transportation planning
    • transportation operations analysis (particularly VISSIM, Synchro, and SimTraffic)
    • travel demand modeling (e.g. EMME, TransCAD, Cube, VISUM)
    • data science, statistics, and visualization (e.g. ArcGIS, Python, R, D3, SQL)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Oregon and preferably in Washington State
  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation or civil engineering, or related major
  • Experience managing mid-size projects for public and private sector clients
  • Comprehensive knowledge of transportation planning and engineering principles and practices (e.g., Complete Streets, MUTCD, HCM, CEQA, NEPA)
  • Experience working on Transportation System Plans (TSP) and knowledge of the Transportation Planning Rule (TPR)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationship, and presentation skills
  • An entrepreneurial spirit exhibited through personal drive and initiative
