Entry-Level Design Engineer
(San Jose, Roseville, Reno, & Walnut Creek offices)

Fehr & Peers is a leading transportation planning and traffic engineering firm looking for motivated “transportation enthusiasts” to design a wide variety of transportation improvements.  We provide specialty traffic engineering design services that range from traffic signal to Intelligent Transportation Systems designs.  We provide support for civil engineering design firms, as well as public agencies.  As an engineer at Fehr & Peers you will implement new solutions and witness your designs become a reality.  Through extensive field work, close coordination with other members of the design team (during design and construction), and an excellent quality control program, we are leaders in the transportation design industry.  We will remain so by investing in research and development, offering extensive training to our staff, and providing our clients and communities with the best ideas and solutions.

Job Description

Entry-level engineers will be exposed to a wide variety of design projects, including:

  • Traffic signals and signal systems
  • Bicycle and pedestrian improvements
  • Street, highway, walkway, and bikeway lighting
  • Signing and striping
  • Ramp metering
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), including changeable message signs, closed circuit television and traffic monitoring stations
  • Construction traffic control/management plans
  • Roundabouts

New hires will perform a wide variety of tasks, including:

  • Field work, such as site review prior to design and support during construction
  • Prepare plans, specifications and estimates
  • Review electrical installations during and after construction
  • Review traffic and project reports
  • Meeting participation
  • Project management
  • Discipline group participation
  • On-the-job training and mentoring

Qualifications

Engineers must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in transportation, civil, or electrical engineering, or a related major. Desirable work experience includes exposure to field work and transportation planning or traffic engineering design. Technical writing and verbal communication skills should be above average, and an EIT for engineering candidates is highly desirable.
